A custom build can be difficult to visualize without a design. Simple square structures might be easier to envision, but elaborate designs that demonstrate multiple features and different colors might not be so easy to envision. Design is a crucial component of a successful project. Our Design Services provide clear expectations and many added benefits.
Can I draw my own deck plans?
All you need to make accurate deck plans are a pencil, ruler, and graph paper. Draw your deck to scale on graph paper (typically 1/4″ to the foot). You’ll need at least a site plan, a plan view, and one or two elevations. You also may want to draw detailed plans for complex parts of the deck.
Do you need to be an engineer to design a deck?
Is engineering necessary for my deck? No, not always. However, it depends on the complexity of your project. We will make certain recommendations towards the level of involvement that we expect to see from engineering.
Do I need an architect to design my deck?
In most cases an architect is not legally required for residential deck design. However, plans for large or complicated projects, such as rooftop decks may require the seal of a licensed architect. Check with your local building authority to be sure.
What is a deck architecture?
In architecture, a deck is a flat surface capable of supporting weight, similar to a floor, but typically constructed outdoors, often elevated from the ground, and usually connected to a building. The term is a generalization from the deck of a ship.
